Help Transform the Lives of Women Artisans Guatemala
We are a non-profit social enterprise working with Mayan women artisans in the highlands of Guatemala. Our mission is to empower these artisans, their families, and their communities through Fair Trade and Social Programs that help to rescue, preserve, and promote their ancestral culture with a focus on backstrap weaving. We connect our indigenous women artisans to national and international markets through a fair trade model and offer community programs including artisan development, community health, and student sponsorship.
Our work is made possible through the generous and constant support of volunteers. We are always seeking individuals to come join our multicultural team in Panajachel. Please contact us if you are interested in supporting us in the following areas:
- Product Design and Development
- Tourism Development and Promotion
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Marketing, Communications, and Social Media
- Grant Writing and Fundraising
- Translations from English to Spanish

We do not charge for volunteer placements, though there are costs involved including flights and accommodations. Although living expenses can vary based on individual preferences, volunteers can anticipate paying around US$200 per month to rent a small apartment and US$150 per month for food. For longer-term volunteers we are able to offer housing at a minimum rate of US$100 per month.
Volunteers learn about traditional Maya culture, including medicinal plants and backstrap weaving, and are encouraged to take a weaving class to better understand the traditional art we work to preserve and promote. Volunteers practice their Spanish, as well as help our Guatemalan staff improve their English.
