Volunteering Abroad Shouldn't Cost the Earth

Volunteer at a Historical Hostel in Guerrero Mexico

Description

We are a small historical hostel functioning since 1960, located right on the main beach in he center of Zihuatanejo in the state of Guerrero. The owner of the hostel is from one of the original families of the city and is a writer and an artist. The hostel is one of the few remaining properties in the area that conserved its traditional rustic coastal style. It has a large garden with a huge variety of fruits, flowers and other plants, and we are working on developing a vegetable garden as well. We have an eco-friendly approach to our work. We are also cat lovers, and there are 8 cats that live on the property.

We accept 1-2 volunteers at a time, depending on the availability, whose role is to help around the hostel with general tasks of cleaning, gardening, attending the guests, helping in the kitchen. In return the volunteers receive a bed a in a shared room that has its own bathroom, access to the kitchen, the garden and outside areas with chairs and hammocks.

The gate of the hostel leads right onto the in beach, and the whole of the center, as well as other beaches are within waking distances. Zihuatanejo is a small coastal touristic city that has a lot of offer, with many beaches, shops with unique crafts, cafes and restaurants and a rapidly developing artistic scene. Every Saturday there is an eco-market where you can buy organic products and artesanias from the local community. Moreover, Guerrero is the state with the 4th highest biodiversity in Mexico and offers a variety of wildlife sightings (including wales and sea turtles) and untouched natural areas within a short bus ride.

We are looking for responsible volunteers, who share our values and are interested in helping a small business while getting to learn about the local culture.
