Year round

Duration of program:
1 week minimum

Adults of both sexes 18+

Cost:
There is no cost to participate but volunteers are responsible for covering their own living expenses. There is a hostel where volunteers can stay and a couple of basic hotels. Overnight stays are often required when working in more distant communities. Depending on the community, volunteers will stay with a family or sleep in a hammock or even on the ground.

Other information:
Dengue and malaria are very prevalent in the Darién region. Anyone considering spending time in the region should consult a doctor about preventative measures. It’s also important that travellers to the region bring iodine tablets to purify their drinking water. A mosquito net is essential and can easily (and cheaply) be purchased in Panama City.
