Volunteering Abroad Shouldn't Cost the Earth

Build Homes in Guatemala Guatemala

Description

Volunteering with us offers a unique cultural experience. Our volunteers share an intensive work time with the local masons, and have the opportunity to better experience the Guatemalan culture through interacting with the family that receives the new home. Our houses are built by local construction workers and their assistants along with at least one member of the beneficiary family. Construction volunteers and the family member work under the direction of the masons. It takes approximately one to two weeks to complete a house, therefore we encourage volunteers to work for the entire construction time in order to see the construction of the house from start to finish. The work sites vary depending on rural or community settings as well as the placement of the volunteer accommodations, having the options of staying in a city, small community, or even a more rural setting.

If you would like to be a Construction Volunteer for Constru Casa, please contact us at voluntario@construcasa.org. We ask that large groups contact us well in advance of your trip so we can make sure you have a great experience! Because of the ever-changing COVID-19 situation in Guatemala, we require that volunteers and other people with whom we have contact use a mask, apply hand sanitizer, provide adequate social distancing, wash their hands, and use disinfection before, during and after the work day; and if necessary provide negative COVID-19 tests. Please email voluntario@construcasa.org for more information, or if you have any specific questions before volunteering!
