We are a non-profit organization based in Baja California Sur, Mexico and are the leading organization dedicated to the research and conservation of sharks and rays in the Gulf of California.

Our Shark Internship Program offers a unique experience and platform for participants to gain hands on field experience working with shark research in and around the Gulf of California, alongside our team of experienced field technicians and shark specialists. All participants who join our internship program will have the opportunity to be involved in every research component of our shark monitoring programs, you will increase your understanding of shark research through scientific lectures and many hours of practical training in the field as well as gain experience in an office environment.

The internship program has a maximum of 3 placements available at any given time as a way to ensure a more valuable experience in the field with sharks and an increased opportunity for personal development during your internship with us.

Our internship program is open to absolutely ANYONE. Whether you are a graduate of marine biology or someone who is looking to start their early career in marine biology or just passionate about sharks and want to help our program is perfect for you.

We do not require any specific skills to join the program we only ask that all volunteers are comfortable with swimming.

Cost:
Our internship program has a donation fee which is used directly to cover the costs of the running of the research as well as the housing and logistics of taking care of participants. Internship fees: US$1250 for 2 weeks; US$1995 for 4 weeks. What is included in the internship program fees: airport transfers (arrival and departure); accommodation for the entire duration of your stay (in our research centre facilitates); scientific lectures given by our scientific team and our students; shark anatomy and shark handing workshop; training in scientific sampling techniques (blood, genetic, bacteria tissue); statistical training and courses in a number of analysis software; training in field-based scientific monitoring techniques of sharks; all field trip expenses (food, accommodation, park fees and boat expenses whilst in the field); an unforgettable experience in marine conservation with us and our affiliated partners; discounted SCUBA diving courses, free-diving training and first response certifications with our affiliated partners.

Other information:
The donation fee breakdown is: 50% running of the research projects; 30% hosting interns (accommodation, water, electricity, gas, Wi-Fi); 15% boat maintenance, captain fees and park fees; 5% administration fees and taxes.
