Volunteering Abroad Shouldn't Cost the Earth

Marketing And E-Commerce Assistant Guatemala

Description

Our team is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual with a passion for fair trade and artisanal products to join us in Guatemala, giving our Mothers' Artisan Group visibility and helping place our products as a sustainable way to fund our community school and library.

La Puerta Abierta is a vibrant learning center for students of all ages with a focus on meaningful education and literacy outreach in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala. We are a force in leading alternative education in rural Guatemala where traditionally educational philosophies have been rooted in conventional teaching techniques. Our mission is to empower children to use creativity, critical thinking, and literacy to become innovative problem solvers. Through the use of guided literature exploration, our students develop skills to analyse, reason and relate books to their own lives preparing them to become future agents of change and leaders within our community. We value innovation, creativity, critical thinking, literacy, diversity, and life-long learning.

The Mothers' Artisan Group provides a dignified form of income for the mothers of our students while enhancing their personal creativity and promoting a sustainable income generation for la Puerta Abierta. Our mothers design handmade products, most with a focus on childhood whimsy such as finger puppets, holiday ornaments and cuddly toys. All profits collected from the sold artisan products return to the scholarship fund at la Puerta Abierta.

This position involves creating a communications strategy, designing creative content, managing publications in our social media channels, getting involved with the mothers' artisan group, looking at markets where to place and promote our products and much more. We are always happy to listen for ideas and new approaches.
